Music teachers throughout the world have been quick to recognise and see the benefit of introducing this easy to teach instrument that produces beautiful sounds. Children are able to create music and satisfy their thirst for learning almost immediately, giving them a basis from which to progress.

There is a wealth of information on this website that can be accessed by children to complete a interesting and visual Tinwhistle Project. Not only can they learn about Tinwhistles but they can learn to play one too!

This project would not only touch on the subject of music but also history, science, English and IT.

Due to demand from Music Departments for teaching resources, Teaching Methods are now available which include Tinwhistles, Tutor Handbooks and CDs. You also have available to you the email support from Norman Dannatt our resident Tinwhistle expert.

Product Support

The Clarke Tinwhistle Company is very fortunate to have Norman Dannatt on its staff. He is an authority on Tinwhistles and has been involved in all the research and development of their different types.

Norman started his career as a professional musician in the theatre. There he worked as a performer (piano, organ, sax, clarinet and percussion), composer and musical director.

After training as a teacher, he taught in secondary, junior and infant schools. For the last 11 years until he retired, he was School Inspector for Music to the London Borough of Havering. Since his retirement he has continued working as a part-time lecturer in music education and as a consultant to several musical instrument firms including, of course, us!

Norman has an in-depth knowledge of the history, manufacture and use of all our range of Tinwhistles and will be happy to answer over email any questions you may have regarding our products etc.

You can email Norman directly with your questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A Typical Question Asked Is:
How Do I Care For My Tinwhistle?
Answer:

Look after your Tinwhistle and it will give you years of service.

1) Never play immediately after eating unless you wash your mouth out first. Nothing spoils the tone of a Tinwhistle more than having small particles of food lingering about in the windway.

2) Some players deposit more moisture from their breath than others in their Tinwhistles. This can spoil the tone. Cover the hole below the mouthpiece (the window) with a finger and blow hard. This will disperse the moisture.

3) After playing, hold the instrument under the tap to wash away any accumulated moisture and then grip it firmly and shake all the water out of it. Leave it to dry in the air. As it is made of good quality tinplate there should be no rusting in the short time it takes to dry.
